The TRANSITION NETWORK Forum

The question we face is..

How will we survive?

HOW CAN HUMANITY SURVIVE?

Is this not what 'Transition' is really all about?
Is it not also Humanity's long-term strategy?

The will to survive is built into our genes.

Just like in every other species, even as it was in the extinct ones.
BUT.. Humanity has the 'conscious vision' to never become extinct...
at least, not for the lack of trying to prevent it!

The majority of pundits, most actual experts, the politicians and businesses...
.... all alike .....only talk tactically.
Even when talking "globally" they are calling for us to change our behaviours locally.. so long as we agree with, and vote for 'this one'... and buy from 'that one'!

Motivating our Survival Through the near or present crisis...
just to allow us to chase further down the same dead-end
is not and will not be an effective long-term motivator.

Nor will it be a long-term solution..

Human Greed and Selfishness is
...our key flaW.
each one of us knows it and wishes it were not so!

recognition of this has been the basis of every religion in the past, and every lifestyle improvement philosophy today!

The systematic exploitation of greed and selfishness amongst the many by the few for the fulfillment of their own is the basis of the socio-economic paradigms today, and most of those throughout all of our histories!

We may not be able to change our ambivalent nature ...
but WE CAN RE-DESIGN our systems TO USE IT POSITIVELY!!

The great religions knew that our 'true nature', what we aspire to, is to grow and build and survive and to work against our individual greed and selfishness. They called upon us to transcend the negative in our behaviour... often giving good advice on how to do that. And gained wide support through that.

however, The great businesses and advanced economies have governments and global leaders whose positions and institutional structures depend upon them nurturing our negatives and suppressing our positives.

They need any Transition to new ways of doing things to be ONLY a tactical exercise...
A change that leaves the fundamental organisation and control of our societies unchanged...

And therefore also humanity's long-term prospects of eventual extinction rather than a universal well-being and survival!
