To know 'What must change?'... we must know 'Why change at all?'
To know that is to know: Why is there life? Why is there the universe...
... Why is there not nothing!
The big questions of existence, in the absence of incontrovertible evidence, are and always have been a matter of belief. They will remain so, as long as sentient humanity survives. Because we seek those answers, we seek to survive:
... Continually... Individually... Collectively. We seek to survive, in all places, in all circumstances. We change, we evolve:
... Continually... Individually... Collectively.
We evolve behaviourally, physically, culturally and as a species: We diversify:
... Continually... Individually... Collectively.
We are not unique in this. All life forms share these drives.
However, we appear to be the first to be self-aware. Able to ask questions of our changing environments. Able to formulate new survival strategies and new futures.
We are able to ask "Why must we survive?", "Why do we even ask?":
... Continually... Individually... Collectively.
Is it because, after a long childhood, that in these past 15,000 years humanity has reached its adolescence? Are we coming into our maturity? Are having to change and recognise our interdependence? With our planet, our environments, our societies and with each other?
The path to maturity is unsure. To find that path we must first consider where it may lie. Then seek and recognise it. Only then may we prepare and set out along it. Not knowing its destination... except having the faith that it, and the paths it may lead us onto, will bring us to an understanding of our own existence, our own purpose and that of all existence!
We are now sure that to stay on this path of adolescence will bring death. To us, our societies and perhaps to our species.
If life has the purpose of discovering itself, it may well set back evolution on this planet by millions of years.
The path... from Adolescence to Adulthood... is a "TRANSITION"
... the path to realising our individual and collective humanity
... the chance for humanity to know"Why?" and for future generations to learn to follow the paths and learn the answer to The Question.
Perhaps, even, to fulfill and be that answer!
